New patient app and triage system – Dr iQ is coming!
Dear patients
On Monday 5th August 2024, we will be launching a brand-new patient app for all patients over 16 years old to be able to use. This will replace our current system, AccuRx and allow us to triage patients in a more effective way – making sure you are seen by the right person, at the right time.
What is Dr iQ
Dr. iQ is an app that is a fast, safe and convenient way to access your NHS local GP services and a triage tool for GP Practices.
What does this mean for me?
- This means that from Monday 5th August, when you call the practice requesting an urgent or on the day appointment, the receptionist will ask a few questions. They will note this down, then ask the GP to review in the information.
- The clinician will triage (review) this information and decide how quickly you need to be seen, and who is the best person to see you. This may be your GP, a nurse practitioner, a pharmacist or another member of the clinical team.
- Please be assured that assessing urgency of your request will never be the job of the receptionist, but it is really important you provide the information to the receptionist so they can convey this info to the clinician. Of course, all information is treated confidentially.
- Once the clinician has triaged the information a member of the administration team will contact you and book you in for an appropriate appointment or signpost you to an appropriate service.
- Using the Dr. iQ app means that you can provide this information to the clinician without calling the practice and talking to the receptionist.
- You will be able to download and register on the Dr iQ app from 6:00am on Monday 5th August 2024.
- Patients who are not able to use the app should call the practice as you normally would. Please note, this service is over 16s only.
What are the benefits for me?
- You can avoid telephone queues by using Dr. iQ to access GP services digitally.
- Flexible access to GP services that fits around your busy schedule.
- You can send messages, upload photos and documents to the practice.
- You can submit an online consultation on someone elses behalf, such as your child.
Why not see if you can save time waiting on the phone by requesting an online consultation with Dr. iQ?
Why is the practice making this change?
Implementing Dr. iQ and our new way of triaging will allow us to use our resources more effectively and see as many patients as we can, each day. It will allow us to make sure you are seeing the right clinician for your care needs and help us to prioritise our vulnerable and most clinically urgent patients.
What do I need to do?
If you are over 16 years old you can download Dr iQ from the App store (iOS and Android). You can sign up and you are ready to go!
Please note that from noon on Friday 2nd August 2024 – we will no longer be using AccuRx at the practice.
When will this be up and running?
Dr iQ will be live in the practice from 6:00am on Monday 5th August 2024.
How do I use Dr iQ?
Dr iQ is easy to use. We have a two video guides on how to register with Dr. iQ and how to use Dr. iQ and will be running several patient events, held here at the practice, on how to use Dr iQ.

No, of course if you do not wish to use Dr iQ, you don’t have to. You will always be able to call the practice to book an appointment. Dr iQ does help you to access our services quicker so we hope as many patients will use the app as possible.
We’re very excited to be able to bring you this new system and know it will be great for our patients – we hope you like it!
