News Update - Covid
We have now attempted to contact all our patients in cohort 1-9, which is anyone aged 50 and above and any adult in an at-risk group to offer them a vaccination appointment at the Riviera Centre in Torquay.
If you are in cohorts 1-9 and you haven’t received a text this may be because the number we hold for you is no longer in use and we don’t have your up to date mobile phone number or you’ve previously declined a Corona Virus vaccination. If you have a new phone number or previously declined and now changed your mind and would like a vaccination please call the practice after 10 AM and we can update your details and arrange a vaccination at the Riviera Centre in Torquay over the next week.
In about a weeks time we will start to invite patients in the 40’s for their first vaccination together with patients that are now due their 2nd vaccination so please keep an eye out for a message regarding booking in for your vaccination in Torquay at the Riviera Centre. If you have had a first vaccination it is very important that you have the 2nd vaccination for the vaccine to be fully effective.
We are now only receiving the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccination for the foreseeable future, with the Pfizer vaccination only being provided for those patients that received this vaccine for their first dose.
Working collaboratively with all the GP Practices across Torbay we have now vaccinated over 55,000 Torbay residents and 86 % of the over 60’s population. This includes over 3,000 Care Home residents and staff and 1,300 bedbound patients in their home.
You can see evidence of your Corona Virus vaccination by using the NHS App (NOT the NHS Covid App) by clicking on “Your GP Health Record” and selecting “Immunisations”, if you want details of Corona Virus Tests thee show on the tab “Test Results”. For details about the NHS App please click here this link also has links to the App Store, loading the App is simple although it helps if you have photo ID like a driving licence or passport handy as this speeds the process up considerably.
The information posted on our web site on the 16th March remains pertinent, please click “here” to see this.
To reduce the risk of spreading the Coronas virus we must increase management of foot fall through the surgery, therefore our front door will remain locked during normal surgery hours and will only be opened when there is no other patient in the reception area to maintain social distancing.
If you have an appointment when arriving at the surgery please use the intercom button to the left of the front door and let the receptionist know you are here. Please be prepared to wait outside until the reception area is clear when we will release the electric door lock.
To make an appointment please use the e-consult function via the front page of our web site www.southovermedicalpractice.co.uk. For patients who do not have a smart phone, tablet or computer you can speak to a receptionist however due to a combination of increased demand and reduced staff (due to self-isolation) calls are taking longer than normal. Also the receptionists may run through the questions on the e – Consult form with you.
You will not be able to book an appointment by turning up at the reception desk.
If you have a nurse appointment booked, then please continue to come, we are reviewing the nurse appointments and we will let you know if we need you to delay until a later date.
Should you require a repeat prescription then please use either the Patient Access app on your phone or tablet or the new free NHS App for phones and tablets. This enables you to order prescriptions, check symptoms, appointments and review your medical record, including test results. If you want to drop in the repeat part of your last prescription then please put this in our letter box to the left of the front door. Remember all prescriptions will be sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice, if you have not nominated a pharmacy then they will be sent to Day Lewis adjacent to our surgery.
Regarding prescriptions due to unprecedented demand pharmacies across Torquay are asking that patients leave an extra couple of days before collecting.
Please note that we are not issuing Fit Notes for people who self-isolate, please follow the guidance on the NHS website in this regard.
Please bear with us in these truly extraordinary times.
The team at Southover Medical Practice.
